Hong Kong Disneyland Height Requirements: Every Ride, by the Numbers

Hong Kong Disneyland Height Requirements: Every Ride, by the Numbers

Here is the short version of the Hong Kong Disneyland height requirements: only about six of the park's roughly twenty rides have a minimum height at all, and the tallest bar is 120 cm. So if you are travelling with a toddler or a smaller child, most of the park is open to you. The handful of thrill rides that do turn kids away are the ones worth checking before you queue, because Disney measures at the entrance and does not bend.

Below is every ride with a minimum, in centimetres (what is actually posted at the ride) with the rough inch equivalent, so you can measure your child at home and know before you go.

The six rides with a height requirement

  • RC Racer (Toy Story Land): 120 cm, about 47 in. The tallest requirement in the park.
  • Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars (Grizzly Gulch): 112 cm, 44 in.
  • Hyperspace Mountain (Tomorrowland): 102 cm, 40 in.
  • Iron Man Experience (Tomorrowland): 102 cm, 40 in.
  • Wandering Oaken's Sliding Sleighs (World of Frozen): 95 cm, about 37 in.
  • Toy Soldier Parachute Drop (Toy Story Land): 81 cm, about 32 in.

That is the whole list. If your child clears 120 cm, they can ride everything. Clear 102 cm and the only rides still off-limits are Big Grizzly Mountain and RC Racer. Everything else in the park has no minimum at all.

What has no height requirement

The other rides, roughly fourteen of them, are open to any height. That covers most of what younger kids actually want to do: It's a Small World, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, the Cinderella Carousel, the Mad Hatter Tea Cups, Mystic Manor, Jungle River Cruise, Orbitron, Slinky Dog Spin, Frozen Ever After and the Hong Kong Disneyland Railroad. Toddlers who are still too small for the thrill rides will not run out of things to do. How strictly is it enforced?

Strictly. Height rules exist for ride safety, and cast members measure children at the entrance to each ride against a marked board. A child who is even a fraction below the line will not be allowed on, no matter how disappointed they are or how close they came. There is no negotiating it, and pleading at the front of the queue only makes for a worse moment.

The fix is simple: measure your child against a wall at home, ideally with the shoes on that they will wear in the park, then plan the day around the rides they clear. It saves a long wait followed by a turned-away child, which is the exact situation the measuring is meant to avoid.

If your child is too short: Rider Switch

If one of you wants to ride Big Grizzly Mountain or RC Racer but your child cannot, you do not both have to skip it. Hong Kong Disneyland runs a Rider Switch system: one adult rides while the other waits with the child, then they swap, and the second adult rides with little or no extra queueing. Ask the cast member at the ride entrance to set it up. It means two grown-ups can each do the big rides without leaving a child unattended and without lining up twice.

Age, tickets and who has to come with a child

Height is about the rides; age is about entry and tickets. Hong Kong Disneyland counts anyone aged 3 to 11 as a child for ticket pricing, which is a wider band than most Disney parks. Children under 3 do not need a ticket. On the park's own rules, guests who do not meet a ride's minimum height may not ride, and children under age 7 must be accompanied by a guest age 16 or older, so a young child always needs a responsible older companion in the park.

If you are bringing kids, two more practical notes help. You will want to sort payment before you arrive, and an Octopus card for your kids covers the MTR and buses to get there. Inside the resort you can also tap to pay in shops and restaurants; here is how using an Octopus card at Disneyland actually works.

Quick answers

What is the minimum height to ride everything at Hong Kong Disneyland? 120 cm (about 47 in). That is the bar for RC Racer, the single tallest requirement. Clear it and no ride is off-limits.

What can a 2 or 3 year old ride? Nearly everything except the six rides above. Small-child favourites like It's a Small World, Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo, the carousel and the tea cups have no minimum height.

Is there a maximum height, or can adults be too tall? No. Hong Kong Disneyland's rules set minimum heights only. There is no upper limit for adults.

Do they really measure at the ride? Yes, every time, against a fixed board at the entrance. A child below the line is not allowed on, so measure at home first.

Which rides can a child around 100 cm ride? At 100 cm they clear Toy Soldier Parachute Drop (81 cm) and Wandering Oaken's Sliding Sleighs (95 cm), plus every no-minimum ride. They fall just under Hyperspace Mountain and Iron Man Experience at 102 cm, so those two are the ones to grow into.
